Bad* Environment Club is so much more than an NFT project.
Bad is not just an NFT. That’s a hard concept to grasp for a lot of people; especially since the movement started in Web3 — but just because Web3 was our inception point does not mean we are confined to it for eternity.
So if it’s not an NFT, then what is it exactly?
Bad is a punk-esque luxury brand.
It’s a community.
It’s an experimental art movement, utilizing Web3 technology to achieve a vision… That vision is what carries us forward.
Let’s talk about what that means. Strap in.
Vision
Web3 is at the core of our business model — but the industry is still too polarizing for the vast majority of the world. So, rather than force our ideals unto the masses, we want to re-package the idea of Web3 in the form of products and experiences. This sounds good in theory, but it needs to be packaged in a truly unique way to appeal to Web2 audiences.
It’s about bridging the culture and familiarizing everyday consumers with the concept of true ownership that can only be achieved through blockchain.
THE POINT*
The counterfeit industry is a big deal.
In fact, it’s already surpassed its way into a trillion dollar industry. Brands have been left without options, and online marketplaces like Stock X can no longer tell the difference between real and fake — to the point they are being sued by Nike for selling fake products... There is no true way to solve for this issue outside of the answer that nobody wants to acknowledge: Blockchain.
Blockchain ensures authenticity. When information is stored on-chain, duplicates and fakes can be easily spotted. Brands like Fear of God have already tapped into NFCs. BAD* takes it a step further by using NFC for product verification.
Problem.
This process must be as fast as possible. That’s why we chose Solana; “a blockchain network focused on providing fast transactions and high throughput.”
Transactions on Solana have scaled to over 4,000 transactions per second, and the network is incredibly stable. Even giants like Visa and Shopify have taken notice and positioned themselves accordingly.
How do we use NFCs?
Buy a product from Bad and tap it with your phone.
In less than seconds, your product has been verified (possible through google e-mail verification, Monstré and TipLink) and you receive a ‘digital double’ (collectible) as proof of that transaction.
If anyone can handle the demand of NFC verification, at the scale we will need it at in the future, it’s Solana. That is the beginning and end of why we embraced blockchain — but it goes so much deeper when tapping into the fact that our NFT collection provides exclusive discounts and wait times for the people that decide to hold them.
What’s Next?
Brands aren’t built overnight.
It takes time to build a movement that will scale into something memorable. Right now, we’re building. But so far, it’s safe to say that people love what we’re doing.
Stay tuned for more updates, and for what we have coming next week.
Until then… Stay bad.
